Karen B. Kempton AIA Architecture is an architectural design firm that specializes in blending traditional New England architecture with today’s contemporary lifestyle. Creative open floor plans that showcase the site’s inherent features is a trademark of the firm. Casual Cape Cod living is reflected in the sunny great rooms, gourmet kitchens with breakfast nooks, cozy sunrooms and covered porches. Clients work closely with Karen to design homes that reflect their dreams in livable houses that meet their needs. The firm offers renovation and addition designs that seamlessly flow within the original context of the house enhancing living spaces while respecting the site’s scale and functionality.

The firm has experience in working within site constraints such as lot size, setbacks, height restrictions or other zoning and construction restrictions. Aided by solid working relationships with local inspectors and substantial knowledge of state and local building codes the firm provides construction drawings efficiently, timely, and cost competitively. With over eighteen years of working with the building community, Karen has formed relationships with major Cape builders who share the passion of creating finely crafted homes.

 

PRINCIPAL

Karen is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in design and has 20+ years of experience with residential design. After having worked in several architectural firms in Richmond, Baltimore, Washington DC, and Philadelphia, Karen became employed as the head of design for a large building/development company located in Chatham, MA. While there, Karen designed homes in over 20 subdivisions throughout Chatham, Harwich, Brewster and Orleans. In 2004 Karen started her own firm and has continued to provide design services to local builders as well as custom home design to an ever increasing list of clientele. Karen is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Boston Society of Architects, member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and is currently registered as an Architect in the State of Vermont.
